Faculty 和 staff honored for accomplishments, years of service

Credit: Megan O'LearyKate Linnenberg received the 詹姆斯·R. Underkofler Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching Award. Nominated by students for the college’s highest honor, the associate 教授 of 社会学 has sparked students’ interests in inequality, collective behavior, 和 gender. Since joining 贝洛伊特 in 2004, Linnenberg has helped students master complex material, then bring that material to life.

Students wrote that she promotes an equitable classroom environment 和 gets them involved in community projects. One student wrote that Linnenberg “does everything in her power to help her students, 和 she is extremely empathetic 和 caring. I have never met a 教授 who has been as involved 和 invested in her students’ success as she is.”

Sponsored by Alliant Energy, the award is named for the organization’s longtime CEO.

Phee Boon Kang’73 Prize for Excellence in Advising 和 Mentoring

Political science 和 international relations 教授 巴勃罗·托拉尔 和 housekeeper Dorlean 贝尔 both received this year’s Phee Boon Kang’73 Prize for Excellence in Advising 和 Mentoring.

Credit: Megan O'LearySince he joined 贝洛伊特’s faculty in 2003, Toral has taught classes in environmental politics, sustainable development, comparative politics in Latin America, 和 a regular Boundary Waters summer course. He is widely known as an accessible 和 supportive advisor, generous with his time 和 encouraging of everyone’s success in his classes. “Most of the things I have achieved during my time at 贝洛伊特 were because of him,” one student wrote.

Dorlean 贝尔

Dorlean 贝尔贝尔, a housekeeper at 贝洛伊特 since 1984, goes above 和 beyond in her work 和 her kindness towards students. One student called her “a beacon of light to everyone around her. When you see how students react to her, you can tell that she has impacted so many of their lives the same way she has impacted mine.”

Bill Behling Prize 和 Presidential Service Shoes Award

At a faculty 和 staff breakfast in May, Career Development Advisor 艾米丽·塞奇 was awarded the 2023 Bill Behling Prize 和 the Advancement team earned the Presidential Service Shoes Award, a tradition started by President Scott Bierman.
