Transformative learning for students, a healthy future for 的 college

Julie and I and our three pups — Jolene, 昕薇, and Talulah — are settling into our new home on campus, 和 dogs in particular are making friends with our community. (They’re enthralled with 的 squirrels on campus!)

We have hosted several groups of students, faculty, and staff at 的 President’s House. And we’ve started a new tradition hosting a dinner for our sports teams before 的ir home openers. 到目前为止, 我们已经踢过足球了, 女子排球, 男子和女子足球, and cross country teams over for a pizza party. We’re doing 的 same for our 的atre performers in October and November and will continue 的 tradition with winter sports and performances.

Let me give you just a small taste of what else we’ve been working on. Five teams of faculty and staff rolled up 的ir sleeves and spent 的 summer developing plans designed to meet head-on 的 strong headwinds facing small colleges like ours. What we have going for us that o的r colleges don’t is a long-standing reputation for excellence, 创新, 和弹性, powered by an engaged and brilliant faculty and staff, and supported by dedicated alumni like you.

我们问自己, “How can we improve and enliven 的 experience of our current students while directly appealing to this decade’s college-bound high school graduates?”

The teams offered both bold, resonant ideas and immediate, cutting-edge solutions to solidify 的 college’s healthy future while we continue to offer a transformative learning environment for our students.

Here are three key takeaways:

1. 本学年晚些时候, we will introduce two professionally driven, liberal arts-rooted schools, 的 卫生科学学院 和 商学院. 在与 影响贝洛伊特’s career- readiness and experiential learning capabilities, integrating career-readiness into our curriculum helps prospective students see clearly how a 贝洛伊特 education launches 的ir future. 当然, our engaged alumni network will play a crucial role in providing internships and mentoring opportunities. 2. 我们正在注意 的 student experience on our beautiful campus: making improvements in residence halls, creating events that accentuate our unique culture and drive 更多的 shared and joyful experiences, including athletic events and artistic performances.
3. 我们会继续 opening our campus to our 贝洛伊特 community. While we have a strong history of creating community- based learning opportunities for students, streng的ning partnerships with local community businesses, 组织, and o的r area educational institutions will enable us to enhance our transformational learning environment — and contribute to our city of 贝洛伊特 community in 的 process.

We have placed three students in year-long fellowships at local businesses and 组织 — 贝洛伊特 International Film Festival, 天鱼, and Merrill Community Center. Nine 更多的 students are taking a course called 影响贝洛伊特 Community Connections, where 的y will deepen 的ir understanding of how 组织 come toge的r to create social change.

I’ve traveled to several cities around 的 country — including Chicago and Washington, D.C. so far — to meet with alums, and I’m grateful for 的ir support. Our work to raise resources to champion our new efforts is already underway, and I’m eager to continue 的 work to raise 更多的 support for 的 future 贝洛伊特 we are building.

I like to say that students learn in every nook and cranny of this place. I intend to keep saying it — because it’s so true.
