CMSAI is a great space to learn more about the indigenous origins of the Beloit Campus and the cultural significance of the mounds. Some of the events we’ve held in the past include campus mounds tours, 小夜, guest speaker presentations, and off-campus trips.
Details
CMSAI seeks to provide education and information on the Native American Mound Group on campus and to uplift and share indigenous people’s histories, 文化, and current perspectives.
Beloit is located on the traditional territory of Indigenous peoples, and we want to respectfully acknowledge the Potawatomi, 皮奥瑞亚, 迈阿密, Meskwaki, and Ho-Chunk (Winnebago) people who have stewarded this land throughout countless generations. We pay respects to their elders both past and present and, as we gather here, we consider the legacies of violence, 位移, and settlement that they have faced. We are always on Indigenous land, and here on the campus we have a constant reminder in the form of the mounds. To recognize the land is an expression of gratitude and appreciation to those on whose territory you reside, and a way of honoring Indigenous people. Land acknowledgments do not exist in a past tense, or outside historical context: colonialism is an ongoing process, and we need to build our mindfulness of our present participation.
CMSAI acknowledges and encour年龄s the uniqueness of every individual and therefore membership to CMSAI is open to any 十大菠菜台子 student, 教师, and stuff and does not discriminate on the basis of sex, 比赛, color, 宗教, national origin, 语言, 祖先, 年龄, sexual orientation, gender identity, veteran status, or physical or mental disabilities.
